CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND FIGHT AGAINST WASTE, THE GROUP AIMS AT AN INCREASINGLY ECO FRIENDLY FUTURE

​Pettinaroli has always been committed in protecting the environment and its latest introduced policies renew the group’s devotion to this cause

Born in a territory with a strong natural presence, Pettinaroli has always had environmental protection and waste limitation in its vision. Proof of that are, for example, ISO 50001 (which examines the energy management system in business processes) and ISO 14001 (which analyzes the environmental management procedure).
These voluntary certifications testify Pettinaroli’s commitment to produce efficiently while reducing its impact on the environment. In addition to certifications, the company has constantly invested in technologies that limit consumption and pollution during the various stages of production.

For several years the internal transport of materials takes place via an automated electric-powered carrier. This system, in combination with the use of electric-powered forklifts, allowed the company to reach zero emissions for the internal handling of materials. Plus, San Maurizio D’Opaglio headquarters is equipped with a photovoltaic system active since 2011. From the date of its installation, the plant has returned a substantial energy saving avoiding to reintroduce a huge quantity of CO2 into the atmosphere. But the results achieved so far have not slowed down the company quest for additional methods to make the activities increasingly “green”. In this perspective, from the end of November 2019, the disposable plastic bottles have been replaced by reusable flasks, which can be filled through water dispensing machines. The annual consumption of disposable bottles in the company was estimated at around 11,000 units per year and was immediately canceled by adopting this new provision.

The declared aim for the coming years is to move as far as possible towards a virtuous model of circular economy. An economic system no longer disposable but also and above all regenerative. Pettinaroli is ready for a further step in this direction with the upcoming project for the automatic collection and differentiation of the production brass scraps. In 2020 a robot will collect and separate the waste of the different alloys that will then become available for recycling and reusing. Important signals come also from the other companies in the group. HCi has recently implemented the use of a shredding machine that will allow to grind all excess cardboard boxes by converting them into packaging material. The pilot project is giving excellent results and soon its implementation it is expected also by Jomar.

The urgency to replace the consumerist model and its disposable concept with a circular economy that pays attention to avoid wasting is becoming pregressively global. Once again Pettinaroli Group proved ready and has already taken up the challenge.
